3 - Dimen Solid Modeling Design I, Intermediate Drafting Design, Introduction to Drafting

Education

I am a 1998 graduate of Northview High School in Dothan. I received an Associate of Applied Science in Drafting and Design Technology from Wallace Community College - Dothan in 2000. I'm a proficient user of AutoCAD, along with Inventor, Solidworks, Solid Edge, Google Sketchup, and 3DS Max. I am currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Career Technical Education from Athens State University.

Experience

My introduction to drafting began at Dothan Technology Center in a drafting class with Mr. Grant. As a high school senior, I was a co-op student with the City of Dothan. This was my first real experience interacting with engineers and designers on a daily basis. I did a ton of small jobs, but my primary duty was rod man on the survey crew - the guy holding prism on the highway or out in a field.

My drafting career began with Johnson & Reeves Engineering, a civil and structural engineering firm, where I spent around 8 months. After finishing my drafting degree, I accepted a position with Peach Engineering, an HVAC and electrical firm in Dothan, and I spent 5 years there. I've always enjoyed architecture and took an opportunity to work with a Bradley Architecture. In my 2 years there, I enjoyed working on everything from senior centers to beach houses. I believe that architecture is the best experience for a drafter.

Up until this point, I had only worked for small firms. The beauty of small firms is that you receive a lot experience in all facets of the job. Working with a max of 12 people, you tend to wear many hats, and that hat can change on a daily basis.

I moved to Barge, Waggoner, Sumner, & Cannon, which is a 400-plus person engineering firm. BWSC covers the Southeastern United States and has the capability to produce projects ranging from bridge design to water flow modeling. Our projects were based on airport design, paving, and drainage projects.

I've done almost all types of drafting and design, except for electrical and structural work. I like to think I'm fairly versatile in my drafting experience.

Bio

I am married to Christie, and we have two cats - Peaches and Pumpkin - and a dog named Harley. My background is in cad design, software, 3D modeling, and all things technology.

I am an adjunct instructor at Wallace Community College - Dothan, where I have been teaching evening drafting classes since 2006.

I am the regional executive for the Wiregrass Region SCCA autocross group (chasing cones in a parking lot). In my space time, I like to attend car events, work on cars, watch sports, work out at the gym, and spend time with friends and family. We like to travel and visit our friends and family across the country.
