Carroll defeats Greenville 14-8

The CHS Eagles took on Greenville Tigers, Friday night, Oct. 27. It was a nail biter with the Eagles going into halftime 6-0. The Tigers scored on a block punt with a 2-point conversion early in the 3rd quarter giving the Tigers an 8-6 lead.

A.R. Martin recovered a blocked punt in the end zone with 3:06 left in the game to lift Carroll over Greenville 14-8  and keep the Eagles regular-season unbeaten streak alive at 22 games.

On the fourth down play from the 4, Carroll’s Markel Lewis rushed in off the left side and pushed a blocker into the punter just as he was getting the kick off. The loose ball then rolled backwards into the end zone, where an alert Martin was there to pounce on it. Tim McClendon ran in the 2-point conversion.

“When I saw the blocked punt, I knew just to dive on the ball like my coach always told me to,” Martin said. “When I saw the ball in my hands, I jumped for joy. I just thanked God that we came out with the win.”

Carroll, ranked No. 2 in Class 5A, improves to 9-0 overall and 6-0 in region play. Greenville falls to 4-4 overall and 3-3 in region play.
